What do Shakespeare and Maths have in common? It turns out to be...a lot! In this engaging and interactive show, maths author Rob Eastaway and Shakespeare improviser Rebecca MacMillan reveal the surprising mathematical connections between Shakespeare and the world he lived in. Find out how Tudors multiplied, why dice games were a hazard for the unwary, and why Shakespeare really did make much ado about 'nothing'. With historical asides about calendars, optics, music and magic thrown in, this is a fascinating insight into a Renaissance world in which every subject was connected.
We recommend you make it a combined Year 10 trip for English, History and Maths Departments.
Year 9s who have already studied some Shakespeare will enjoy it too.
The show will touch on several maths ideas that link to GCSE including algebraic proof, ratios and fractions, angle measurement, game strategies, arithmetic and Pythagoras – plus quotes from a wide range of Shakespeare plays including Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet.
But remember this is an enrichment lecture show, not a school lesson!
